Learn how we can become self-motivated
I think this talk can be very helpful as we start to think about what our programs will be in the approaching cycle. Framing our legs as choices, working towards positive gains, and receiving feedback from each other put us in the best position to succeed!
I’ve shared my takeaways below. Happy listening!
- Beyond boundaries - rules and accountability
- How do we become inspired to do more than we have to; to do more because we want to, not because we have to?
- Self-motivation
- Feeling empowered by choice
- When we perceive choices, we become motivated
- Reframe goals positively as choices and opportunities
- Three questions to ask yourself to feel empowered
- Self-efficacy - Can I do it?
- Response efficacy - Will it work?
- Consequences - Is it worth it?
- Positive reinforcement (success-seeking) - when we work towards a positive consequence, we feel more motivated
- Negative reinforcement (failure avoidance) - when we work to avoid a negative consequence, we feel controlled
- When we feel competent, we become more self-motivated
- Receiving people’s feedback and recognition encourages us to continue
- Community
- Social support is critical
- People who are connected to others feel happier
- We need to be humble enough to receive feedback
- We need each other
